Blog: Bill Murray's head

We went to the Kristen Ann Carr Fund event on Saturday Night - it's a great charity that funds cutting-edge sarcoma research and sponsors a network of sarcoma specialists. It's truly an organization that saves lives. Barbara and Sasha Carr, Dave Marsh and Michael Solomon are wonderful people and good friends.

It's always a blast - but this year, perhaps due to the Rascals reunion concert (after 4 decades), Bill Murray showed up. Now, Murray has long been one of my favorite actors - he made Caddyshack (one of the greatest comedy films of all time as far as I'm concerned). He pretty much stole Ghostbusters and when you watch Stripes, you're not looking at Harold Ramis or even the sultry PJ Soles - you're watching Murray do his thing. The man's a genius.

The upstairs room at the Tribeca Grill is packed and the show hasn't even started yet - but THERE HE IS! Bill Murray, just leaning up against the wall, chatting with somebody. I wish I could've said I spoke to him... or whispered "Gunga, la Gunga" (you Caddyshack freaks know what I'm talking about) in his ear. Who knows - maybe he would have gone into his lip-bending Karl Spackler routine...or maybe he would have slugged me in the face!

Murray has a serious reputation as someone not to be messed with - or interrupted. I know of more than one fan who attempted to speak to him when he wasn't in the mood and paid a humiliating price. So I admired him from afar. He seemed in excellent spirits and at one point I could swear he caught me glancing over and he smiled back - at least I hope he did.

During the absolutely red hot set the Rascals played, Murray got out onto the crowded floor and got down to hits like "Groovin'", "You Better Run" and "Good Lovin'" (with help from Steve Van Zandt AND Bruce Springsteen). Oh what a night!

The Rascals (and Bruce) rockin' the house! Sadly, I didn't get a chance to meet Bill Murray, but I danced next to him and that was enough. Don't believe me? Here's a photo of his head:
